# Is an Active Subscription Required to Become an Advisor?

## Can I Become an Advisor Without an Active Subscription? Do I Need a Membership to Become an Advisor? Is a Paid Subscription Required to Join as an Advisor?

No, you do not need an active paid subscription to become an Advisor on Startups. com. You can create your Advisor profile with a free account.

However, your subscription level affects how much you earn from paid advisory sessions. Based on the current structure:

Free Account: You keep 80% of your earnings; Startups.com receives 20%.  
Pro Subscription ($49/month): You keep 85%; Startups.com receives 15%.  
Advisor Tier ($299/month): You keep 90%; Startups.com receives 10%.

So, while a paid subscription is not required to become an Advisor, upgrading allows you to retain a larger percentage of your advisory earnings.

Please note that all Advisor applications are reviewed before approval, and the review process typically takes 48–72 hours.
