How do I Generate App-Specific Passwords for Apple Email?

App-specific passwords allow you to grant access to your Apple email for sending investor messages through Investor Matching. Follow these steps to generate one safely.

Follow the steps below to create an app-specific password.

Step 1 — Sign in to Your Apple ID Account

  1. Go to the Apple ID account management page:
    https://account.apple.com/account/manage

  2. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.

Step 2 — Navigate to App-Specific Passwords

  1. Once signed in, scroll down to the Security section.

  2. Look for the App-Specific Passwords option.

  3. Click Generate an app-specific password.

Step 3 — Name the App and Confirm Your Apple ID

  1. When prompted, enter a label for the password (for example, "Startups.com") to help you remember where you’re using it.

  2. Click Create.

  3. You’ll be asked to confirm your Apple ID password — enter it and click Continue.

Step 4 — Retrieve and Use the Password

  1. Once confirmed, Apple will display your new app-specific password.

  2. Copy it immediately — you won’t be able to see it again later.

  3. Go back to your Investor Matching Email account setup page:
    https://www.startups.com/investors/matching

  4. Paste the generated password in both the SMTP Password and IMAP Password fields.

  5. Click Test Account to verify that the connection is working successfully.

  6. Once it shows Connected, your email account will be connected and ready to use.

That’s it! Your app now has secure access to your Apple email without compromising your Apple ID credentials.
