Why does the website link in the email redirect to an error page? The link to my website in the email isn’t working. What should I do? Can I upload another file other than my pitch deck?
The Build Your Pitch section allows you to upload one file, which is intended to be your primary pitch deck. However, if you need to reference additional files, there are two ways to include them: using a linking command or adding a manual hyperlink in your pitch email.
Option 1: Link Another File Using a Command
If you want to include another file beyond the single allowed upload, you can use a hyperlink command in the Message Options area.
Steps:
-
Upload your additional file (e.g., presentation deck) to a cloud storage service such as Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud.
-
Set the file’s sharing permissions to "Anyone with the link can view."
-
Copy the shareable link.
-
In the Message Options text box under Build Your Pitch, add a command like the example below:
Example command:
Please link the phrase 'Our platform' to the following webpage: https://www.startups.com/events/upcoming.
Replace the example URL with the shareable link to your file. This will turn the phrase you specify (e.g., "Our platform") into a clickable link within your message.
How it works:
This command instructs the system to convert a chosen word or phrase into a hyperlink. Investors can then click the linked text and be taken directly to your additional file.
Option 2: Manually Add a Hyperlink in Your Pitch Email
If you prefer not to use a command, you can manually add a hyperlink while composing your email in the Send Messages section.
Steps:
-
Go to the Send Messages section.
-
Begin writing your email.
-
Highlight the text that you want to turn into a hyperlink.
-
Click the Link icon in the email composer toolbar.

-
When the link window appears, paste your shareable file link into the URL field.
-
Click Save.
How to confirm the hyperlink is applied:
The linked text will appear blue and underlined, indicating that the hyperlink is active.
If your website link is showing an error when clicked from an email, it’s likely because the full web address wasn’t entered correctly. To fix this, please ensure your URL includes “https://” at the beginning (for example: https://www.yourwebsite.com).
Here’s how to update it:
-
Log in to Startups.com
-
Go to the Investors Matching Tool
-
Click on Build Your Pitch > The Basics > Website
-
Update your website field with the full link
- Don't forget to save after making the changes
Without the “https://” prefix, email clients may not recognize your link correctly, which can cause errors when people try to click it.
