What server and port should I use for Gmail or Google Workspace?

What server and port should I use for Gmail or Google Workspace? What do I do next after adding the Gmail SMTP/IMAP details? Can I use an alias email?

SMTP / IMAP Settings for Gmail and Google Workspace

If you’re setting up your email connection, you’ll notice that the system includes an option to automatically configure your Gmail or Google Workspace account. In most cases, you won’t need to manually enter any server details — the setup page handles that for you.

Automatic Setup (Recommended)

On the setup page, look for the section labeled Service Provider.
From the dropdown, simply select Gmail / Google Workspace, then click Apply.

Once applied, the system will automatically populate all the correct connection details for you — including SMTP, IMAP, ports, and encryption settings. No manual configuration is needed.

This method ensures a quick and accurate setup, minimizing potential errors.

Manual Setup (Optional)

If you prefer to configure your email manually or need to verify the settings for troubleshooting purposes, you can use the standard Gmail / Google Workspace configuration below:

Protocol Server Port Requires SSL/TLS
IMAP (Incoming Mail) imap.gmail.com 993 Yes
SMTP (Outgoing Mail) smtp.gmail.com 587 Yes (TLS/STARTTLS)

Additional Notes

  • IMAP handles incoming mail and keeps your messages synced across devices.

  • SMTP is used for sending outgoing mail.

  • Always ensure SSL/TLS is enabled for both IMAP and SMTP for secure transmission.

Setting up Alias Emails

After entering your Gmail SMTP/IMAP details, the next required steps are:

⚠️ Google no longer allows most third-party apps to connect using your regular Gmail password, so this step is required for the email connection to work properly.
